“ChocolateFest is created to serve as a conduit for civic groups, charities, and non-profit 501(c)3 entities, to join forces on a large playing field with the ability to generate revenue that will benefit their particular purpose or cause.”
Every person that serves on the ChocolateFest Operations Committee and Advisory Board as well as each and every person who works in any capacity during ChocolateFest is a true volunteer. There is no paid staff. In 2008, the total number of volunteers was over 800. Instead of paying a staff, ChocolateFest enters into a contract with a non-profit group. ChocolateFest pays that group, and the group provides the volunteers.
During the run of ChocolateFest in May 2009, The Operations Committee paid out $168,051.00 to these groups. Those dollars in turn, stay in the Burlington community where they are needed. Since the festival’s inception in 1987, it is estimated that over $1.7 million dollars have been re- invested back into the community through the activities and sponsorship of these groups.
